Phila Mazibuko - actor, presenter and artist all wrapped up in one!

Interview by Ntsieni Tshisevhe
23 July 2010

• Where were you born?
I was born in Durban, spent my primary school career in Richards Bay, and then moved to Pretoria.

• How is life in the entertainment industry?
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be in the entertainment industry, so for me it’s been a blessing that I can do what I really love.

While growing up, who was your role model and why?
I wouldn’t pin point as to who was my role model because I have always been inspired by people that will take an opportunity and make the best of it.

• Do you have any siblings?
Yes I do. I have a 16 year old little sister, Nonkululeko.

• Girls describe you as hot and sexy and would very much want to know, is there a lucky girl in your life?
Unfortunately not any more.

• As young and famous as you are, what sort of challenges do you come across?
As a young person I guess I go through all the challenges that a young person goes through, and as for being famous, the only challenge is smiling and posing for pictures when I’m having a really bad day.

• If you were stranded on a desert island with just one thing, what would it be?
My bible.

• Who was your first television crush?
It has always been Thembi Seeate.

• When you are feeling down, what do you pick yourself up by?
I go to a place where I can be alone and just sing my butt off.

• What has been the greatest mistake you have done?
I think I’m still too young to have had the greatest mistake of my life.

• How difficult or easy was it for you to enter the industry, and when did you get your big break?
I remember going to as many auditions as I could possibly go to, and for the majority of those auditions I was rejected, but I kept on going because I knew what I wanted in life and nothing was going to stop me. I got my big break as a field presenter for LIVE but it wasn’t the first show that I did.

• How does it feel to have the spotlight on you everywhere you go?
I love it!!!!!

• If you could change something about yourself what could it be?
Absolutely… nothing. I love the way I am.

• You’re an actor, presenter and musician, how do you balance the three?
It’s all about time management and the goodness that I have a few of those skills.

• Do you ever get time to yourself?
I try my very best to have time to myself just to reflect and count my blessings.

• Besides the three things we know you to do, what else do you do?
I am a law student.

• With all the hype around you, how do you keep grounded and focused to your work?
The work that I do is driven by love and passion so it’s that love and passion that keeps me focused.

• You have recently released your debut album; please tell us more about it.
That’s my baby. It’s an album for all music lovers because what we have done is cater for lovers of house music, RNB, jazz, afro pop and so much more. I’ve been blessed to have worked with great musicians of our time such as Theo Kgosinkwe, Zano, KB, Shota, Demore, Thabi and Funk Daddy. The album is called “my first love” simply because music has always been my first love.

• How have the masses received it?
Very well, whenever I have performances I’m amazed at the number of people that know my songs.

• Are you where you had planned to be in your life?
I am far from where I ever thought I would be at this age but I know that with God by my side I’m going far in life.

• What motivates you to wake up each morning?
The fact that I’m still breathing means that I have a predestined destiny to play out.

• With the platform you have, how are you using it in relation to uplifting the youth?
With the platform that I have I use platforms such as these to motivate and inspire the youth through my life and my experiences.

• Where do you see yourself in the next three years?
In the next 3 years I see myself/brand being more established as a musician in fact I’m working towards getting a SAMA award.

• You are completely dominating our screens the only way you know how, what’s your last message to your fans?
LOL! Thank you. My message to my friends would be to push yourself because you never know how far you can go until you push yourself.
